Term 1 Week 10

 Kia Ora Kākano Whānau,

We have made it to the last week of term!! Last year, term one wasn’t so successful, as we had gone into lockdown after only 8 weeks. It has been a great term. All of the classes have settled well with their new teachers and we, the teachers, have loved getting to know all of the children and families. Thank you for your support during this term with various school and classroom events.

Take a look at some of the photos from last week:

We were lucky to Senior Constable Regan in to talk to the children about safety in the car. He talked about having the correct car seats in for the children as well as the importance of ALWAYS wearing your seatbelt. It is always great to have these community leaders come in and see the children for a casual chat so that the children know that these people are out there to help us.

Principal's Morning Tea

On Wednesday, some children will be selected to go to a Principal’s morning tea. There are only 3 children per class chosen each term. It is to recognise students for outstanding efforts in the classroom. Although the invite doesn’t specify - this is just for the children to attend. There will be photos on Facebook for parents to look at. Keep an eye out on Tuesday to see if your child has been invited this time!!

ANZAC Day

During the holidays we celebrate ANZAC Day (Sunday 25th April). I am hoping to have a strong representation from our school attending the parade. If your child would like to join us and walk in the parade and participate in the Civic Ceremony at the Bay Trust Forum, Energy Events Centre, Queens Drive please make sure they are at the Lakefront Memorial (intersection of Fenton St and Whakaue Streets)  by 8.30am in their winter school uniform. Jersey, not fleece top. The ceremony concludes at the Energy Events Centre and should be over by 11.00am Parents are also invited to be part of the parade and service. Children just might want to be part of the parade. If you have a poppy your child can wear, please pin it on them. I will have some spare ones to give to children at the parade.  This is a very special ceremony so I do encourage our children to be part of this. ALL STUDENTS ARE INVITED TO PARTICIPATE.

Uniforms

At the start of Term 2 children must be in winter uniform. Uniforms can be bought from our uniform shop. The shop is open Monday 8.30am, Wednesday at 2.30pm, Friday at 8.30am and on Monday, the first day back in Term 2, at 8.30pm. I want to make sure our students are wearing the correct uniform in Term 2.  At this point, I would also like to mention that our Lost Property is *overflowing* with items left around the schoolyard by students.

The Week Ahead:

This week is a swimming week!! Bring your togs and towel every day.

FRIDAY:

Whakaue golden time - if you are in this house make sure you dress in yellow.

Library day. Please make sure you return your old books in order to issue out new ones for the holidays.

We wish you all a safe and restful holiday next week.
